PRECIOUS METALS, LOCAL PRODUCTION
We source our precious metals (gold, silver and copper) primarily from recycled materials — more than 90% of which are reclaimed — and craft our pieces in local workshops with skilled artisans in Germany. Our designs are conceived in our atelier in Munich.
Over time, your jewellery may show subtle signs of wear as it becomes part of your everyday life. Small surface marks and gentle changes in finish are not faults — they reflect the way your piece is worn and lived in.
GENERAL CARE
Put your jewellery on as the final step when getting ready, after applying make-up, perfume, hairspray or lotion. This helps protect the surface from cosmetic residue.
Before showering, bathing, swimming or cleaning, we recommend removing your jewellery. Contact with chlorinated or salt water may lead to discolouration or affect the metal over time.
It is advisable to remove jewellery during manual work, gardening or household tasks, as contact with tools, dirt or cleaning agents may cause scratches or surface changes.
Please remove your jewellery before entering a sauna or steam bath, as metal heats up significantly and stones or pearls may be sensitive to temperature changes.
During sports, we recommend storing jewellery safely, as strong impacts or perspiration can affect both the piece and its finish.
Store each piece separately in a dry place away from direct sunlight to help preserve its condition.
Regular care helps maintain your jewellery’s beauty. After wearing, gently clean it with lukewarm water, mild soap suitable for skin, and a very soft toothbrush, using light pressure to avoid surface scratches.
Dry with a soft cloth and avoid using paper towels or microfibre fabrics, as these may mark the surface.
Ultrasonic cleaners are not recommended, particularly for pieces set with stones or pearls.
GOLD
We work with 18k and 14k gold for our solid gold pieces.
18k gold — stamped 750 Au: this alloy contains 750 parts pure gold per 1,000 parts. The remaining 250 parts consist of silver and copper, which influence the final colour of the metal. Depending on their proportion, the tone may appear softer and lighter or deeper and warmer. In classic yellow gold, silver and copper are present in equal parts — 125 each.
14k gold — stamped 585 Au: this alloy contains 585 parts pure gold per 1,000 parts, with the remaining 415 parts composed of silver and copper.
To preserve your gold pieces, avoid contact with cosmetics, chlorine, salt water, cleaning solvents, tools, heat, prolonged humidity and perspiration. Remove them before sports and store separately in a dry, dark place. Clean regularly using lukewarm water, mild soap and a very soft toothbrush, then dry with a soft cloth.
SILVER
We use sterling silver, stamped 925 Ag. This alloy contains 925 parts pure silver per 1,000 parts, with the remaining 75 parts consisting of copper.
Silver evolves naturally over time. This subtle change results from the interaction between silver, copper and environmental elements. Its appearance may vary depending on skin chemistry, frequency of wear and storage conditions.
One of the beautiful qualities of silver is that regular wear can help maintain its brightness, as natural friction acts as a gentle polish. With proper care, your silver pieces can remain beautiful for many years.
To preserve your silver jewellery, avoid contact with cosmetics, chlorine, salt water, cleaning solvents, tools, heat, prolonged humidity and perspiration. Store pieces separately in a dry, dark place. Clean regularly using lukewarm water, mild soap and a soft toothbrush, and dry with a soft cloth.
For a more thorough refresh, you are always welcome to have your piece professionally polished in our store. Tarnishing and subtle signs of wear — such as small scratches or gentle tonal changes — are natural characteristics of sterling silver as it matures.
PLATED METAL
We offer selected pieces in plated versions, such as silver-plated brass or gold-plated silver or brass. These pieces require particular care, as the layer of gold or silver is delicate.
Friction may gradually affect the plating, so please avoid polishing cloths, paper towels, microfibre fabrics or firm brushes.
Should the plating wear over time, you are welcome to have your piece professionally re-plated.
DIAMONDS & PRECIOUS STONES
Diamonds are exceptionally resilient and retain their brilliance for many years, yet they are not indestructible. To preserve their beauty, handle your jewellery with care.
Strong impacts may chip a stone, and a weakened setting can allow a diamond to loosen. Contact with other diamonds may also cause damage. Store each piece individually in a cool, dry place to prevent scratches and protect its finish.
For gentle cleaning, use a soft, lint-free cloth, or wash with warm water, mild soap and a soft toothbrush.
For long-term care, we recommend periodic professional inspection and cleaning at our SASKIA DIEZ workshop to ensure stones remain secure and settings intact.
For coloured gemstones, gently wipe with a soft, damp cloth or wash with lukewarm water and a soft toothbrush. Avoid chemicals, bleach and cleaning agents. Ultrasonic cleaners are not recommended, as intense vibrations may cause cracking.
With mindful handling, your gemstone jewellery will remain vibrant and secure for years to come.
PEARLS
Pearls are naturally delicate and benefit from attentive care. We recommend putting pearl jewellery on as the final step when getting ready and removing it first at the end of the day.
Avoid knocks or pressure, as impact may damage the nacre or affect the setting. If a pearl feels loose, please stop wearing the piece and contact SASKIA DIEZ Customer Care (sales@saskia-diez.com) or visit our store for assessment.
Keep pearls away from perfume, cosmetics, chemicals, bleach, hair dye, acids (such as lemon juice or vinegar), chlorine, heat and perspiration. Store in a dry, dark place away from direct sunlight.
After wearing, gently wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Avoid paper towels, polishing cloths and ultrasonic cleaners.
WOOD
Wood is a natural material that may change gently in appearance over time — this is part of its character. The wood we use is sustainably sourced from local beech and maple trees and treated with environmentally friendly colours that are resistant to scratches and saliva.
To maintain its condition, avoid water, humidity and contact with perfume or cosmetics, as these may stain or damage the surface. Remove before showering, swimming or exercising. Store in a dry place, ideally in a soft pouch.
If needed, wipe gently with a soft, damp cloth.
LEATHER
Our leather pieces are made in cooperation with TSATSAS. They are crafted in Frankfurt, Germany, from high-quality, naturally finished leather.
The leather originates from animals raised for meat production in Germany, Scandinavia, North America, South India and New Zealand. Each piece is unique, with its own natural grain and character.
The leather is free from AZO dyestuffs, PCP and chrome VI and complies with the highest ecological and technical standards under EU environmental regulations.
To maintain its appearance, avoid water, excessive humidity and contact with oils, perfume or cosmetics. Remove before showering, swimming or exercising. Store in a cool, dry place and gently wipe with a soft, dry cloth if necessary.
Over time, the leather will develop a beautiful natural patina.
NECKLACES & BRACELETS
Chains consist of interconnected links, sometimes as delicate as thread. Handle gently and avoid snagging or pulling to prevent stretching or damage.
Over time, daily wear can stretch even solid gold and silver chains, so it is advisable to check them periodically to prevent breakage and potential loss.
If your chain becomes knotted, untangle it promptly. Lay it flat on a hard surface and use two pins to carefully loosen the knot from the centre outward. Avoid pulling forcefully, as excessive pressure may damage the links.
To clean at home, soak the chain in lukewarm water mixed with mild liquid soap for a few minutes. Gently rub along its length with a soft cloth or a very soft toothbrush. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry.
Bayonet clasps are secure but may be affected by pressure over time. If the internal spring weakens, clasp replacement is available to maintain functionality.
If you would like guidance on fastening a bracelet with a bayonet clasp independently, please refer to this video.
EARRINGS — BUTTERFLY BACKS
Our butterfly backs are made from gold and silver. Silver, in particular, may lose tension over time.
To restore grip, gently press the two curved sides of the butterfly back slightly together. This increases tension and improves hold.
If a backing has significantly lost its shape, we recommend replacing it.
HOOPS
To preserve the shape and longevity of your hoops, handle them carefully.
To open, gently twist the ends slightly sideways away from each other — rather than pulling them straight apart — to maintain the hoop’s form.
After inserting the earring, guide the ends back together until securely closed. Using a mirror or asking for assistance can help prevent unnecessary bending.
RINGS
WIRE RINGS
Some of our delicate rings — such as WIRE rings — require particular care. Excessive force or pressure may cause the wire to bend, lose its shape or potentially break.
SLING RINGS
The Sling Ring is one of our signature pieces and requires careful handling due to its open form.
You may adjust the ring slightly once to perfect the fit. However, it must not be bent back and forth repeatedly, as this may cause breakage.
We recommend selecting the correct ring size carefully and wearing your Sling Ring mindfully to preserve its form and longevity.
To put it on, position the spheres to the side and turn the ring 90 degrees upwards once it is on. This allows it to slide more easily over the knuckles without creating the urge to bend it.
EARCUFFS
If an ear cuff feels too loose, you may have it professionally adjusted at our SASKIA DIEZ workshop. If you prefer to adjust it yourself, please refer to this video for guidance.
ENGAGEMENT RINGS
You are always welcome to visit our SASKIA DIEZ store for a complimentary professional cleaning.
For at-home care, gently clean your ring using lukewarm water, mild soap and a soft toothbrush to remove dirt. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.
If your ring features a claw setting, we recommend having it professionally checked approximately every six months to ensure the stone remains secure and properly seated.
TARNISHING
Tarnishing is a natural reaction that occurs when metal comes into contact with air and environmental elements, resulting in slight darkening or discolouration on the surface. All metals oxidise over time.
This subtle change is part of the material’s natural behaviour and is not considered a production defect.
Discolouration may develop more quickly when jewellery is exposed to moisture, skin oils, acidity or substances such as perfume, lotions, sunscreen and salt water. Because individual skin chemistry varies, the rate at which tarnishing occurs differs from person to person.
With consistent care — including gently wiping your jewellery after wearing and polishing it regularly with a soft cloth — you can help preserve its shine.
